Product

Color and durability throughout the service life.

Without additives, polypropylene (PP) tends to degrade on contact with oxygen. In this process, chain scission occurs, the polymer yellows, its physical properties weaken, and its melt flow rate increases; as a result, surface chalking and loss of function can occur.

Although polymer degradation cannot be prevented entirely, antioxidant additives make it possible to preserve color and physical properties throughout the service life. With a broad portfolio of antioxidant additives developed for different applications, Düderi aims to improve the durability and performance of polymers.

Problem

What does oxidation do to PP?

Antioxidant additives slow down these effects; color and physical properties can be preserved throughout the service life.

  • Chain scission

Contact with oxygen causes breaks in the polymer chains.

  • Yellowing

The polymer turns yellow; the product’s appearance deteriorates.

  • Loss of properties

Physical properties weaken; surface chalking and loss of function can occur.

  • Increase in flow rate

As the polymer degrades, its melt flow rate increases.
